Are you a knitting designer that wants to create polished and complete patterns? I can help!
I'm a Certified Technical Editor with experience editing a variety of knitting patterns.
What does a Tech Editor actually do?
Your pattern will be edited for clear and concise language, consistent formatting and style, and all the math and measurements will be verified for accuracy.
The standard hourly rate is $35 (after the first hour of editing, the rate is pro-rated in 15-minute increments). Depending on the complexity and number of sizes, accessories can take 1-2 hours and sweaters take between 2-6 hours.
SERVICES
Along with Technical Editing, the following services are also available (all at the standard hourly rate of $35):
Charts (using Stitchmastery)
Schematics (hand drawn)
Pattern grading
Style Sheet creation
Pattern Template creation (using Canva)
If you'd like more information about any of these services, please send me an email.

Response TIme
I try to respond to each email within 24 hours (not including weekends). Please be patient!
Here's the basic procedure we'll follow as we work together to create a complete and polished pattern:
Send an email to hello@toniaknits.com with information about the pattern (the type of garment and any special design features or techniques) and your publication schedule.
You can expect a response from me within 24 hours. I will request a PDF of the pattern and your style sheet if I'm able to complete the editing process within your timeframe. If I believe the pattern is outside of my experience or I'm unable to meet your time requirements, I will let you know.
Once I've taken some time to look at the pattern, I will email you the estimate for completing the editing.
After you've agreed to the estimate you'll receive a PayPal invoice for half the estimate as a deposit to hold your spot in the queue. Once that invoice is paid you'll be added to my schedule and can expect to receive your edited pattern within our agreed-upon timeframe.
During the editing process, I may email you with any questions or clarifications I might need. When I've finished, I'll send you an annotated PDF with my comments and suggestions.
After you've finalized any edits or suggestions, you will send the edited pattern once more so I can have a final look before publication (included in the initial estimate).
Once all the edits are complete and you have a fully-edited pattern, I'll send a second PayPal invoice for the remaining balance (due upon receipt).
A Few More Notes:
File formats: I prefer editing patterns in PDF format but can also edit documents using Mac Pages or Google Docs formats.
To make the process run smoothly, ensure that all parts of the pattern are complete and included (charts and schematics, etc.) and that you have formatted the pattern according to your style sheet. Photographs of the garment are also very helpful.
